This recip saw is DeWalt's latest flagship, taking over from the DCS388, to provide unparalleled cordless cutting performance. It operates at 3,000 strokes per minute and has an output power of 1874 Watts, that's 19 percent more than the 388. To harness this upgraded power, the drivetrain is a crank type system which reduces the unpleasant vibrations normally associated with powerful reciprocating saws. To help the user see the work during cuts, there is a nose mounted LED light that brightly illuminates the cut line. To get the extra power, DeWalt's engineers redesigned the internals of the brushless DC motor to allow greater magnet overhang as well as more copper windings. This is all done within the existing shell taken from the 388, allowing DeWalt to pass the cost savings on to the customer.
